He contested and won the Chairmanship of Ogbomoso North Local Government in 1998 under the platform of All Peoples Party (APP)
and served in that capacity between 1999 and 2002 during which he got elected as Vice Chairman, Association of Local Governments
of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State Chapter from 1999 to 2002.
During 1999 – 2002 that he was the Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government of Oyo State, he demonstrated rare commitment
and diligence to duty. Except when on official assignment outside the Local Government, he gets to the office as early as
8.00am and leave very late in the day attending to all issues affecting his people. No wonder, the tenure witnessed a lot
of developmental projects unparallel in the history of the Local Government. These include construction of roads, building
of Schools, hospitals and a host of others.
As the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, apart from State matters, he was the Chairman of the sub-committee on Cocoa regeneration
and development, of the National Cocoa Development Committee. The hosting of the Cocoa Rebirth Event in Ibadan is a reward
of some sort for his wonderful contributions to the National Cocoa Development Committee and for the giant strides achieved
in the cocoa industry for the period that he was the Deputy Governor.
His meteoric rise from the grass root level as a Chairman of a Local Government to the State, first as a Deputy Governor and
then to the highest political office in the State, is indeed destined by God and with a specific mission, determination and
loyal commitment to improve the level of development in the State.
Since his assumption of office as the Executive Governor of Oyo State on 29th May, 2007, he has changed the whole phase of
governance in the State with his high level of commitment, accessibility, tolerance and service. This is evidenced in the
restoration and maintenance of peace in the State. Indeed, the face of governance has drastically changed from sombreness
that hitherto pervaded the corridor of power to that of unprecedented liveliness as there is no longer any dull moment. The
Governor, in his usual characteristics manner of open mindedness, ensures that every member of his cabinet plays significant
role in his administration as governance to him, is team work and collectiveeffort.
